Marlin Model 39a Serial Number Lookup
Picked up a 39TDS and have read through several of the 39TDS threads trying to get the YOM on this rifle.
I have some questions that maybe some of you can answer for me.
If the serial number starts out like this TDS003XX, I am assuming that this is a first year manufactured TDS according to some of the threads on here.
But this is where I get puzzled, another thread stated that if the buttplate was a checkered hard plastic buttplate then it was manufactured in 1994.
Mine has the hard plastic checkered buttplate.
According to what I read, those that have the checkered buttplate also have a serial number that starts out with 06XXX and maybe or maybe not have the TDS at the end of the serial number.
Anyone have any more info. on how to figure out what the YOM would be on this 39TDS?
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Been a member for awhile, this is my firs post.
I have what I always believed was a Marlin TDS. It's marked TDS on the barrel, came with the black takedown case and the little white plastic 'keeper' to hold the bolt in place. Had a friend come over and when he looked at it he said it was a 'parts gun' because the serial number didn't start with TDS?
Serial number is 11143*** marked on the top tang and on the inside of receiver.
Did all TDS's have TDS in the serial number? Mine is an early manufacture (1988) was wondering if possibly the early guns weren't stamped differently.
Doesn't matter to me as I don't plan on selling it but would like to know the truth regarding history.
